A group of curators are turning their back on the more conventional ways of displaying art and use the Internet to host their gallery.

The project, called e-2, is run from a room in a tower block in the East End of London. Since 1997 they've been encouraging artists to explore the Internet as the only medium for their work, demanding interaction by placing the art viewer at the centre of the piece.

The piece by Japanese-born artist, Tomoko Takahashi, entitled "Word Perhect", has become famous. Its cutting edge style led to a nomination for the Turner Prize in 2000. With seven thousand visitors a day, Takahashi's piece draws audiences in a way that contemporary art cannot. E-2 receives about 40,000 people a month, and bridges the gap between a physical gallery and a new media world. We chatted with co-founder and digital artist Simon Faithfull about the ins and outs of e-2 and digital art.
