In the second lecture, Lord Broers explores the origins of modern technologies. He emphasises that new products almost always result from the bringing together and evolving of existing capabilities and stresses the importance of teamwork. Using global positioning technology and the evolution of electronics as examples he talks about the need to be at the frontiers of technology in order to stand any chance of making the next breakthrough.
