Harriet's diary entry for 9th August 1948

August 1948
Monday 9
(222-144)

Stayed in bed till dinner time. 1.30pm [illegible] to N.P. bank for Audrey. She wasn't ready till 2.20p.m. By bus to Leeds. Audrey bought a "New Look" dress and me a hat with velvet and veiling tying under the chin, also a yellow cardigan. Although it rained all the time we had lots of fun barely escaping being knocked down by traffic, and grinning at the Jews! Tea about 5.30p.m. Home on 7.20 p.m. bus. Audrey stayed till 10.10 bus.

Alastair phoned.

Back to rationing.
